TEDTalks Video: The dynamics of posture

Why is your posture important? In this TEDtalk, Dr. Brian Paris talks about how he empowers people to live active and healthy lifestyles. An overweight and hyperactive child, Brian found his way to health through movement, nutrition and sports. Posture now plays an essential part in not only his life, but in his work that's dedicated to helping others regain their health.

As Dr. Paris comments, "It is better to have structured alignment where your head goes over your shoulders, your shoulders go over your hips, hips are over your ankles." This alignment is fundamental to your health and wellbeing. Any variation away from this 'norm' contributes to musculoskeletal injury and associated health problems.

Dr. Paris continues, "You can actually live a pain free life with better posture, you can perform better at sports, you can perform better at your daily life, you can breathe better and move better." Infact, posture should be thought of as dynamic - a combination of external forces and your internal responses to these forces.

In this regard, Dr. Paris makes the point that by having strong, grounded posture, you can control your emotions and dictate your circumstances, thereby having greater control over your life.

Your posture is the window to your spine. If you're crooked on the outside chances are you're crooked on the inside. There are lots of things you can do to help improve your posture, however if your spine is misaligned you should consider chiropractic care. Not only will chiropractic help to correct the shape of your spine, it can treat many common health conditions experienced today including back pain, headaches, migraines, sports injury and more.
